Targets of this goal

By 2030, it is necessary to achieve the following targets:

Fight desertification, rehabilitate land, and strive for a land-neutral world
Ensure the conservation of mountain ecosystems
Take urgent action to end poaching and trafficking of protected species of flora and fauna
Take measures to prevent the introduction of invasive alien species
Integrate the values of ecosystems and biological diversity into national and local planning

AI is crucial to improve agricultural use by allowing more intensive use of the land and thus mitigating the pressure to occupy new land

Given that a significant part of the ground that is lost is due to forest fires, the use of AI is of interest to reduce this after-effect, acting in early prediction and even logistics for their extinction.

AI can serve for automating the identification of seeds and also in the early detection of plant diseases, allowing to combat it and / or limit its advance, reducing the use of herbicides

R15.1 - AI for prediction and early detection of fires using aerial images and/or sensors

AI, together with the use of sensors, allows making predictions and early detection of fires, which can avoid losing hectares of wild ecosystems. Furthermore, the use of aerial images has a non-intrusive character and greater flexibility than the implantation of sensors. Additionally, they can be rented with for timely use. Drones also have the advantage of doing exploration tasks that could be dangerous for humans, along with facilitating greater mobility.

R15.2 - AI for early detection of diseases in crops and reducing losses

R15.3 - AI to optimize water consumption in crops

R15.4 - Incorporation of intelligent sensors with IoT technologies for intelligent detection in real time

Both early fire response and disease identification or monitoring require the use of sensors. The use of smart sensors connected through wireless technologies such as 5G would allow their results to be transmitted in real time, allowing an early response, which is of special interest in situations where reacting quickly becomes very important, such as in fire action.
