MonuMAI is a citizen science project developed jointly by the Descubre Foundation and the University of Granada, which offers the opportunity to approach artistic heritage, combining art, mathematics, artificial intelligence and social communication of science.
It is an app that aims to involve citizens in the social value of the architectural heritage that they photograph. When the user uploads a photo with the app, the server returns a processed photo in which architectural elements of the Hispano-Muslim, Renaissance, Baroque or Gothic styles are recognised thanks to a Deep Learning algorithm developed by DaSCI researchers. Architectural elements are recognised satisfactorily, although the algorithm needs to be trained to increase its accuracy, which is the basis of the collaboration between researchers and citizens.
MonuMAI, is available both in iOS and Android free of charge, aims to become an excellent educational, cultural and social tool that will enhance the value of Andalusia’s historical heritage for Andalusians, foreign visitors and other tourists who visit us.
