Cristóbal Romero received his PhD in Computer Science from the University of Granada in 2003 and has been a Full Professor in the area of Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence at the University of Córdoba since March 2018. He has been a member of the KDIS research group since its foundation in 2009. His main research lines focus on the application of data mining/learning analytics (EDM/LA) techniques and artificial intelligence methods to educational environments. He has published more than 50 articles in JCR Thomson Reuters impact-factor journals, and over 150 papers in international journals and conference proceedings. He was one of the founding members of the International EDM Society and served as Associate Editor of the IEEE Transactions on Learning Technologies journal from 2015 to 2020. He was pre-selected as an ISI Highly Cited Researcher by Thomson Reuters in the preliminary lists of January 2013 in the area of Computer Science. He has a normalized Crown index of 5.80 (for the period 2015–2018), a value far above the world average of 1. He is the 2020 WINNER of The Prof. Ram Kumar Educational Data Mining Test of Time Award, granted annually by the EDM Society.
In 2020, he was included in the list of researchers “World Scientist: World’s Top 2% Scientists,” published in the prestigious journal PLOS Biology, which highlights the global elite in scientific research.
