The Regional Government of Andalusia has awarded the 2026 Andalusia Medal for Research, Science and Health to Rosa María Rodríguez Domínguez, a researcher at the Andalusian Interuniversity Institute for Data Science and Computational Intelligence (DaSCI) and associate professor at the University of Jaén, in recognition of her scientific career and her international impact in the field of computer science.
Born in Guarromán (Jaén), Rodríguez has established herself as one of the most cited researchers in the world in her field, combining intense scientific activity with teaching and outreach work. Her career includes prestigious postdoctoral contracts such as Juan de la Cierva and Ramón y Cajal, as well as an outstanding scientific output in internationally renowned conferences and journals.
The researcher expressed her deep emotion and gratitude for this recognition, which she considers “a very great reward” for the effort and perseverance that have marked her career. She emphasized that this distinction helps give visibility to research and strengthens the role of science in society.
Rodríguez also expressed her hope that the medal will serve as an inspiration for younger generations, encouraging “boys and girls to study science” and to consider research as a future career path.
The official award ceremony will take place on February 28, Andalusia Day, at the Teatro de la Maestranza in Seville, in an institutional event that honors individuals and organizations for their contribution to the progress of the autonomous community.
