Alberto Fernández was born in Cádiz in 1982. He received his Degree in Computer Engineering and his PhD in Computer Science from the University of Granada, Spain, in 2005 and 2010, respectively. He has been an Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence since 2017, teaching at both the Faculty of Sciences and the School of Computer and Telecommunications Engineering at the University of Granada, Spain.
He received the 2010 Outstanding PhD Thesis Award, the University of Granada Excellence in Research Award on three occasions, and the Lofti Zadeh Award for the best publication in 2009. His research focuses on topics such as classification in imbalanced domains, fuzzy rule learning, evolutionary algorithms, multi-classification problems with ensembles and decomposition techniques, as well as Data Science and Big Data applications. He has published more than 50 papers in ISI-indexed international journals, participated in over 20 research projects and contracts, and supervised 3 PhD theses.
He serves on the editorial board of several international journals, including Applied Intelligence, PLOS One, Progress in Artificial Intelligence, Cognitive Computation and Big Data, and is a referee for numerous ISI journals such as Fuzzy Sets and Systems, IEEE Transactions on Fuzzy Systems, Information Sciences, among others.
According to Thomson Reuters’ Web of Science, his scientific output has received more than 4,000 citations, with an H-index of 27. In 2017, he was identified by Clarivate Analytics as one of the Highly Cited and most influential scientists in his field.
