- The DaSCI-UGR Institute, in collaboration with the Granada Chamber of Commerce and financed by NextGeneration-EU and PRTR funds through the IAFER-Cib Strategic Project of the University of Granada with INCIBE, has launched a training programme focused on Artificial Intelligence and Cybersecurity, aimed at local companies.
- Granada becomes the epicentre of technological training with a seminar that brings together companies such as Covirán, IFMIF-DONES or Grupo Cuerva to address the challenges of AI and cybersecurity.
The Seminar on Artificial Intelligence and Cybersecurity, organised by the Andalusian Interuniversity Institute in Data Science and Computational Intelligence (DaSCI-UGR) in collaboration with the Chamber of Commerce of Granada and financed by the NextGeneration-EU and PRTR funds through the IAFER-Cib Strategic Project of the University of Granada with INCIBE, will start on 8 July 2025 with the intervention of Professor Francisco Herrera, professor expert in AI and director of the DASCI Institute. This seminar is part of the Strategic Project “Ethical, Responsible and General Purpose Artificial Intelligence for Cybersecurity” IAFER-Cib (C074/23) financed by the NextGeneration-EU funds and the PRTR through the IAFER-Cib Strategic Project of the University of Granada with INCIBE, an entity dependent on the Ministry for Digital Transformation and Public Administration through the Secretary of State for Telecommunications and Digital Infrastructures and the University of Granada and is carried out in the framework of the funds of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, financed by the European Union-Next Generation EU.
The seminar aims to provide Granada’s business sector with key tools and knowledge to face the current technological challenges, especially in view of the imminent entry into force of the new European legislation on Artificial Intelligence.
Among the attendees were representatives of leading companies and entities based in Granada, such as Covirán, IFMIF-DONES, HAMMAM, SAFRAN, the School of Art of Granada, Cuerva Group, DEEBIT, T-SYSTEMS, Trevenque Group, INNOVASUR, SIDN or CETURSA, among others. The diversity of sectors represented reflects the transversal interest in the application of AI and cybersecurity technologies in different productive areas.
This training programme takes on even more relevance after the recent setback suffered by Granada when it was not awarded the Degree in Artificial Intelligence, a decision that has generated concern in the local academic and business spheres. In this context, initiatives such as the one promoted by DaSCI-UGR and the Chamber of Commerce are presented as a strategic response that allows laying the foundations of a transversal, advanced training aligned with the real needs of the market. The combination of reliable, generative AI and cybersecurity not only represents a thematic vanguard, but also an urgent need for the sustainable and competitive growth of companies in Granada.
The training offered is advanced in nature and addresses key aspects such as generative AI, trusted AI and applied cybersecurity, with a practical approach and adapted to the real needs of companies. In addition, special emphasis is placed on the ethical and responsibility principles that should guide the development and implementation of these technologies.
With this initiative, Granada reinforces its position as a pole of technological innovation and knowledge transfer, consolidating the collaboration between the university, public administration and the business sector.
INCIBE’s particular mission is to boost the cybersecurity capabilities of society and the economy in general through a programme that seeks to promote and generate knowledge and its transfer to the productive sector, especially by establishing synergies between the social and economic spheres of cybersecurity. To develop this purpose, the programme of grants for the excellence of advanced research teams in cybersecurity was launched in 2018. In 2022, specifically on 5 December, in order to give continuity to this strategy, the public invitation for collaboration in the promotion of Strategic Cybersecurity Projects in Spain was published.
These initiatives are included in the Global Security Innovation Programme, included in the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan (PRTR) through Component 15. Investment 7 Cybersecurity: Strengthening the capacities of citizens, SMEs and professionals and boosting the sector.
Strategic projects are a way of providing concrete solutions to some of the biggest scientific and technological challenges facing our society and economy. They are aimed at promoting the application of the results of research and innovation, combining new forms of governance and collaboration, as well as involving citizens and the productive and social fabric.
