ADIA Lab and DaSCI-UGR launch the International Summer School on “Trustworthy, Safe and Governable AI”.

Ensuring trust and safety in AI systems is paramount as they increasingly permeate our daily lives, from influencing decisions in healthcare to shaping our online experiences. This course will explore the critical role of trust and safety in AI, examining the ethical, technical, and societal implications of AI applications. Together with our guest lecturers, will dive into the multifaceted nature of trust and safety in AI, addressing key challenges and strategies for building trustworthy systems. Participants will examine case studies highlighting the impact of trust and safety issues in AI, gaining insights into best practices for ensuring the ethical and responsible use of AI technology. By the end of this course, participants will have a deepened understanding of the importance of trust and safety in AI and will be equipped with the knowledge and tools necessary to contribute to the development of more trustworthy AI systems.

Learning objectives

The summer school on “Trustworthy AI” aims to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of the key aspects of AI that contribute to building trust in its applications. Through a series of courses, participants will explore ethical considerations in AI, principles of trust and safety, detection and mitigation of bias, strategies for ensuring fairness and addressing discrimination, as well as the importance of explainability in AI systems. Additionally, participants will delve into advanced topics such as Causal AI and Generative AI, understanding their implications for trustworthiness. Privacy and data governance, cybersecurity, and the governance and regulation of AI will also be covered, emphasizing their role in fostering trust. By the end of the summer school, participants will have gained the knowledge and tools necessary to design AI systems that are not only technically robust but also ethically sound and trustworthy.

Sessions

Please note that it is a preliminary schedule and that it still might be subject to change. The schedule includes a range of topics such as ethical AI, bias and fairness, cybersecurity, and governance and regulation of AI. Each session will be led by experts in their respective fields, providing participants with valuable insights and knowledge. We look forward to an engaging and enlightening program that will enrich participants’ understanding of trustworthy AI. The programme has been designed by ADIA Lab and DaSCI-UGR.

Requirements

Interested students must hold a bachelor’s degree. Please submit a short motivation letter explaining your interest in the summer school and how it aligns with your academic and professional goals. Additionally, you are required to provide a letter of recommendation from a professor or professional in your field. Transcripts from your bachelor’s degree (or most recent degree) program should also be submitted to demonstrate academic qualifications. These documents will be used to assess your suitability for the program and your potential contribution to the learning environment.

Registration

You will have the flexibility to choose from two accommodation options based on your preferences and needs.

  • Single Accommodation incl. breakfast: You will have a private room with bathroom and air conditioning in our student residence “Colegio Mayor Isabel la Católica” for the duration of the program.
  • Without Accommodation: You are responsible for booking your own accommodation for the duration of the program.

Regardless of the option chosen, all students will have access to the same program activities and amenities.

Location:

The summer school will take place in the charming city of Granada, known for its rich history, stunning architecture, and vibrant culture. The school itself will be held on the campus of the University of Granada in the UGR AI bulding. You will have the opportunity to explore the city’s historic landmarks, such as the Alhambra palace and the Generalife gardens, providing a unique and inspiring backdrop for the summer school.

You have the choice to either arrange your own accommodation or reserve a room at the “Colegio Mayor Isabel la Católica,” a student residence affiliated with the University of Granada, situated in the heart of the city. This public facility, overseen by the University, offers single rooms with private bathrooms, air conditioning, and breakfast included from Monday to Saturday. Opting to stay here presents a fantastic opportunity to be centrally located and enjoy comfortable accommodations while participating in our program. Moreover, the “Colegio Mayor Isabel la Católica” is conveniently located, with quick access to public transportation (a 5-minute walk to the metro line and 3 minutes to buses). It is just a short 15-minute walk from Granada Cathedral and the city center, and a 15-minute tram ride from the University campus, providing a convenient base for participants to travel to and from the summer school sessions.
