Pablo Mesejo Santiago

Dept. Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence

Pablo Mesejo holds a PhD in Computer Science (Università degli Studi di Parma, Italy, 2013), a Postgraduate degree in Bioinformatics: Genomics and Structural Biology (Universitat Oberta de Catalunya, 2010), and a degree in Computer Engineering (Universidade da Coruña, 2009).

He has worked as a researcher outside Spain for 8 years: 3 in Italy as a predoctoral researcher within a Marie Curie ITN consortium, and 5 as a postdoctoral researcher in France (first, in a laboratory belonging to the CNRS; and then, for almost four years, at Inria Grenoble Rhône-Alpes, Inria being one of the most prestigious institutions in the world in computer science and applied mathematics).

In 2018 he returned to Spain, to the University of Granada (UGR), with a European Marie Curie project, where he focused his research activity on the application of artificial intelligence techniques to forensic human identification problems. Throughout his career, Dr. Mesejo has tackled problems mainly in the field of image analysis: from the automatic segmentation of anatomical structures in biomedical images, or the classification of gastrointestinal lesions in endoscopy videos, to the estimation of biophysical parameters from functional magnetic resonance signals, and the integration of deep learning in probabilistic generative models for visual and auditory recognition in human-robot interaction.

Among other merits, he is co-author of three patents, founding partner and co-director of R+D+i of a spin-off of the UGR (Panacea Cooperative Research S.Coop.), and vice-president of the IEEE Computational Intelligence Society Task Force on Evolutionary Computer Vision and Image Processing.
